Iota Tau Chapter History

Theta Chi Fraternity began its journey on Northern Kentucky University’s campus on November 29, 2012 when Northern Kentucky University’s Inter-fraternal Council voted to extend an invitation for colonization to Theta Chi. At the very beginning of January 2013, later Grand Chapter President Darick Brown and brother Jeffrey Draluck began the recruitment process for the chapter. The chapter started with five brothers, but then quickly began to flourish.

The colony of Theta Chi Fraternity at Northern Kentucky University reached 50 brothers in the Fall semester of 2013 and was allowed to begin the process of initiation. On November 9, 2013, the colony became the Iota Tau Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity on Northern Kentucky University’s campus.

Howard R. Alter Jr. Award for Chapter Excellence

The most prestigious award presented to a chapter, The Howard R. Alter, Jr. Award for Chapter Excellence may be awarded annually to recognize overall excellence in chapter organization and operations for the most recent academic year. The award is not intended to honor a single best chapter, but rather those chapters in Theta Chi Fraternity that exemplify excellence across a broad spectrum.

Chapter Achievement Award

The Chapter Achievement Award shall be awarded annually to recognize those chapters that demonstrate distinction in chapter organization and operations for the most recent academic year. It is the second highest award that may be given to a chapter on an annual basis and any number of chapters may receive the award in a given year.

Chapter Excellence Award12018

The Chapter Excellence Award is presented annually to recognize demonstrated excellence in specific areas of chapter operations and programming for the most recent academic year. The areas are: Scholarship Programming, Recruitment Programming, Pledge and Member Education, Community Service and Philanthropy Programming, Sacred Purpose, Alumni Programming, Chapter Finances, The Ritual, Chapter Operations, Internal Cooperation, Campus Involvement, Risk Management Practices, and Social Programming.

Phil S. Randall Success in Recruitment Award

The Phil S. Randall Success in Recruitment Award is presented to all chapters that initiate more than 25 men in an academic year.

Sidney Ann Gilpen Lewis Memorial Trophy

The Sidney Ann Gilpin Lewis Memorial Trophy is presented annually to recognize excellence by chapters and individual members in exemplifying our motto by assisting others in need.

In 2016, Theta Chi Fraternity launched an ambitious and exciting initiative called The Resolute Man. This program represents the future of Theta Chi by defining the desired outcomes of membership in a measurable way. The requirements outlined within The Resolute Man serve as a roadmap to help members maximize their Theta Chi experience, while also providing a valuable tool to showcase the leadership skills and knowledge the Fraternity instills in its members. As of March of 2025, the Iota Tau Chapter is tied for the most Resolute Men across the Fraternity.
